If ‘And Just Like That…’ Doesn’t Get a Second Season, You Can’t Blame Sarah Jessica Parker

And just like that…we don’t know if And Just Like That is coming back.

Season 1 of And Just Like That… has given fans so much. Sure, the storylines are kind of wacky and sometimes cease to exist altogether (what happened to that podcast producer with the flirty eyes?!), but at this point, that’s part of the fun. AJLT viewers have collectively strong feelings about Che Diaz, groans about Carrie not calling 911 fast enough, and questions about what happened to Miranda in Cleveland ’cause the show sure as hell didn’t tell us. But with the season 1 finale airing today, I couldn’t help but wonder…is this really the end of And Just Like That…?

That remains to be seen. And Just Like That… has not been renewed for a second season just yet, but writer/director Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker are both interested, as reported by Variety. “Definitely, yeah,” said SJP, who is also an executive producer, when asked if she’d want to continue. “Michael and I spoke two weeks ago and said, ‘Okay, when are we going to talk about this?’ Because there’s a calendar and you don’t want to let too much time pass. There feels like there’s momentum.”

Sarita Choudhury, who plays Seema, has also said she’d like a second season. “Just the other day, I was thinking, I wonder. Because there’s a point where they let you know if there is or not and we’re not at that point yet. I was thinking, God, I hope there is,” she told Entertainment Tonight in January. “I feel like the second [season] would be able to just jump into who they really are as opposed to getting the audience used to seeing what they’re seeing. So I would love a second season, but I really don’t know.”

HBO Max

In a December 2021 interview with Vulture, HBO and HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys commented on whether the show could come back. “To tell you the truth, it would be a conversation because I have no idea,” Bloys said. “They kind of came together to do this. They were all really busy and doing other things. So it is certainly a conversation we’ll have—for sure. But we haven’t decided anything or done anything.” He added, “I’m going to leave it up to these guys to figure out what they want to do, but I’m very happy with what they’ve done.”

So yeah, there is interest there, but nothing is set in stone just yet. Aside from comments from the cast and production, a rumor also came out that hinted at the possibility of a second season. A source told Page Six that there is a good chance of a season 2 happening. Meanwhile, another source said those working on the show might feel they can “prove a point” if the show comes back for another round. “They may feel that they want to prove a point that they can make a second season stronger and that it was valid to bring it back for fans,” the insider said.

Challenge accepted. At least in that case we’d get more Che memes!
